Corona positive

Hold your thoughts there! Yes, you read the title right, but probably the inference is not what you think!! I #StayatHome, therefore, I #StaySafe.

Ever since the pandemic situation took center stage, there is gloom, sadness, incidences of humanity and inhumanness too, jobs lost, migrants suffering, economy taking a beat., overall more of not so positive conversations around us.

As a strong believer in "there is an opportunity in every adversity", I set my mind to think of all the positives that this abnormal situation has brought with it, in the last few weeks.

  • #Family time: In my entire career life, I have never ever spent so much time at my home, being together with the family for so long, except the customary break for a family holiday every year. Be it, children or adults, everyone has their own routine and even for planning a family dinner, you need to prioritize between homework, meeting schedules, etc. In the normal routine, Sunday is rest time and as always the weekend flies before you even realize that the weekend has arrived. So this #lockdown situation is in a way a blessing in disguise, to interact, debate, have fun, laugh or simply just be together.
  • #Learning: I'm back to college, but a virtual one, taking up courses of interest. For someone who did education in the pre-digital era, the learning experience now is quite exciting. I was literally on cloud nine to take up a course with a very prestigious University in Europe, something I would have never looked at if not for the #lockdown. Besides using the time to explore and learn as much as my brain could digest.
  • #Networking: Nurturing relationships, reconnecting with friends, striking conversations with Linkedin connects, widening my network: this lockdown has given me the opportunity to do all of these.
  • Self-analysis: Now is the time to discover oneself. Making a SWOT analysis given an opportunity to know thyself and to consciously work on it. When in normal, this takes a back seat. And having a mentor gives an additional advantage to take help and mold to be a better version of myself.
  • #Being thankful: Gratitude is the biggest quality and each day has only reinforced this to my already existing belief of empathy, expressing gratitude, being thankful for what we have. The #lockdown time has also given me an opportunity for #throwback memories with the family, cherish life and be thankful.
I am sure there is a "new normal" that will govern us, the way we think and operate, for good, And there is always a newness that we can discover when there is a new dawn. Let's spread positivity, for this too shall pass and we will become more resilient.

So what's your corona positive experience?

Hap Happ Happy

What drove me to write on this is two things - a post by my journo friend  questioning the way we are living today and a related article that I read on happiness index and how India fares very poor in this , in the 117th place much below small countries like Bhutan.  And I just cant resist sharing the pride that I had when my son's teacher had penned in the report card that he is a happy child -  a remark that I really take more seriously than even the academics. And when we met in one of PTA, she did not forget to mention this too.   As a mother of two, I had always been firm that academics will not be on top of my agenda and that I would rather see my child being a sensible thinker and being humane rather than a topper. Now coming back to being happy, happiness is a relative term and can there even be a yardstick to measure it? For me, happiness is measured by the smiles per day, and it helps me also do a quick che...

A byline story in the front page - at what cost?

I have been wanting to vent out my feelings on this topic for quite some time, happy am able to do it now. When Times launched in Chennai, i was one of those many / few whatever the case may be, who was really excited and became a regular reader. But when i read this particular newsarticle titled "Commandos strike through stormwater drains" which made the front page of TOI, my blood was boiling and the feeling was one of anger and frustration. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Chennai/In_the_pipeline_Commando_strike_through_stormwater_drains_/articleshow/3847830.cms I have nothing against the journalist, but what prompted me to react was the story. How can a strategy which our commandos will adopt be made so public that too as a story of that prominence. Well you may call it freedom of expression? but at what cost????????? (Want to write more on this topic but would reserve it for now)
